Pain in my own body brought me into the world of Rolfing and Restorative Yoga. It was actually during my yoga practice that I hurt my back to the point where I could barely walk for 2 weeks. I had frequent lower back and neck pain, but this particular day happened to be the tipping point.
Weeks later I contacted a fellow yoga instructor and massage therapist to receive body work. After viewing my structure she told me she could massage my back to help with the pain, but if I really wanted to help my body I should go through the 10 series. At this point, I had never heard of Rolfing, but I trusted my friend's insight so I went for it... and that was a game changer!
Structural Integration altered my life so much that I chose to study the Rolf Method at The Rolf Guild in Salt Lake City, Utah, where they teach Ida's original work.
Without a doubt my body feels and performs better than before receiving the work. There is no "fix" or one solution to ridding pain within the body, but Rolfing was the catalyst in developing a change in the way I felt in my body, which lead to better coordination and movement to less pain and more ease within my structure.
To be honest, one of my favorite byproducts of receiving structural integration, is empowerment. As our physical body changes, our emotional body and overall perspective seems to shift with it.
